Over 870,000 years ago, humans had begun to expand Empires and Kingdoms, fighting over the lands and resources. It became so violent, that people started to execute those that trespassed on their land, to protect it from bandits. They, however, weren't the only ones that were suffering. The Earth, the Goddess had long been watching, hoping that they would change their ways.
Thousands of years had gone by, and at last, a group of humans that were tired of the wars, banded together. Slowly at first, so they wouldn't be thought to be a possible enemy. After many years of hiding and passing discreet coded messages, they gathered, now around several thousand humans with the same belief: Humanity has to change to save their world and way of life.
They gathered at one of the very last untouched, and sacred places of Gaia, praying to their Goddess to help them teach and guide the others that were lost. Their humility and the compassion in their hearts moved the Goddess, so she took every last one of them into her arms and gave them each a small piece of her power over the energy of the world.
However, though the changed humans stayed with her to train in their new abilities, the raw power that she gave them would become too much for many of the other human. Gaia taught them instead, to harness the air around them, and the earth below them. For weeks they trained hard to control the power given to them, and finally they were ready to return to the outside.
The Goddess blessed them before they left, that they could with this power they had been given, be able to see the light of life around them. To connect with each other without speaking, and to show others their own life, their aura.
The others saw these and many bowed down in both shame and remorse for their actions. Others chose to fight, but quickly lost or gave up. As Gaia had told them they would, these mages, began to guide and try to help humanity go back to their roots, restoring order in the lands, reviving farms and taking care of the forests and rivers. The earth began to heal, and after several years, many of the mages had their own families.
Another addition to the power the mages were given, the energy in their bodies and souls slows their aging process greatly. Even after 300 years, a mage may simply look in their 70s. This longer lifespan helped them guide many generations of humans, and things were finally peaceful for many centuries.
